Hello Terri,
You are going from 14 sts on the needle to 24 sts on the worked needle. Or add 10 sts to the worked row.
An increase is to knit into the front and back of the worked stitch.
Next: (inc1, inc1, k1) to last 2 sts, inc1, inc1 (24 sts)
This means that stitch 1 is an increase (knit into the front and back) stitch 2 is an increase and stitch 3 is a knit. The brackets tell you to repeat what is inside until 2 sts remain. For each group of 3 sts you will have 5 worked stitches as you increase by 2 sts.
As you begin with 14 sts, you have 4 groups of 3 stitches (4×3=12) plus the extra 2 increases at the end of the row. You end up with 4 groups of 5 sts after working plus an extra 4 from the increases outside the brackets (4×5+4=24 sts)
I hope that this makes sense.
I have a question on the tiny bear knitting pattern. I am working on the body and head. The instructions say to “inc 1, inc 1, knit”. This is new to me. What does it mean? If I increase twice and then knit, I will have more than 24 stitches.
Just love this Knitting by Post site and the little free patterns are such a pleasure to make. Just finished making the pink and white Unicorn. So happy how he’s turned out . Thank you.
Received my patterns that i ordered today. I was most surprised of the quality and ease of instruction. Will be ordering more soon.
