This knitted hand sanitiser bottle holder keyring is quick and easy. It will fit one small pocket sized bottle of hand anti-bacterial sanitiser gel into it.
Hang it on your handbag or keyring. It makes it easier than putting contaminated hands into a pocket or handbag when going to look for sanitiser it is already to hand.
They will make great quick gifts for everyone.
If you don’t have a spare keyring, use some ribbon or yarn to make a loop instead. If you don’t like the button, use a press stud or small piece of velcro – whatever you have to hand.
Made with oddments of double knitting yarn. 3mm single pointed needles were used. It is about 15cm tall including bottle and keyring when finished. Oddments of cotton yarn will reduce the stretch on the piece but use whatever oddments you like or have to hand.
Abbreviations : k – knit. p – purl. st – stitch. tog-together. inc – Increase by knitting into the front and back of the same stitch.
A Quick Note on Tension
Tension is a consideration as your bottle will be a fixed size so using larger needles or thicker yarn will make the keyring bigger. The bottle in this example is 5.5cm at the widest (11cm all the way round) and 10.5cm tall.
18sts wide = 5.5cm half a bottle at the widest
36 sts wide = 11cm all the way round the bottle at the widest
This will leave the bottle sitting comfortably in the pouch. If you have a slightly bigger bottle, this will fit too as there is some give in the pattern.
Hopefully you should now be able to check your knitting against your bottle when you begin to knit it.
Just one final note before you begin. If you want to use larger needles then you could reduce the number of stitches by groups of 2. Leave the strap at 8 sts wide and continue to knit the pattern but make sure to measure as you go!
Front – Make 1
Starting at the bottom of the keyring where the bottle pops out, cast on 10 sts
Next: (k1, p1) to end

Next: (k1, p1) to end
Complete the last row 22 times. Place stitch markers on the first row and row 7 to mark where the keyring loop goes.
Button Hole (if you have a preferred method, please use it)
Next: k1, p1, k1, cast off 2 sts, p1, k1, p1
Next: k1, p1, k1, cast on 2 sts, p1, k1, p1
Next: (k1, p1) to end
Complete the last row 2 times
Cast off in pattern

To make up
Take both pieces and place the cast on edges together. Sew down the row ends. DO NOT sew the bottom edge together as you need the bottom edge to be open so the bottle neck will fit through.
Fold the strap in half and match the stitch markers at the top. Insert the keyring and sew from left to right so the keyring won’t move.
Then place the strap over the front and mark for the button. Sew a small button in place at the front. Insert a bottle of sanitiser.

On 8th May 2020, it will be 75 years exactly since Victory in Europe was declared. It was a time of celebration but also a time to reflect on the sacrifice and courage that millions of people had shown during World War 2.
As the anniversary approaches, we reflect again on the great sacrifice everyone made during our darkest days. On the 8th May 1945,millions of people took to the streets to show their relief at the end of many years of war.
This is an opportunity for knitters to come together and mark the 75th anniversary with this series of knitted toys that can be displayed and gifted during the commemorations.
With that in mind, Knitting by Post are publishing new designs so that knitters can express their gratitude for those that made the ultimate sacrifice.
